Governments change, but friendships endure: After meeting Arvind Kejriwal, Aditya Thackeray

Aditya Thackeray, the head of the Shiv Sena (UBT), called his meeting with AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday a "gesture of friendship." He expressed worry about "electoral irregularities" as well.

"Relationships endure while governments come and go. Kejriwal was introduced to us as a friend. Our democracy isn't free and fair, though. Following the meeting, Thackeray declared, "Elections are not free and fair."

Senior Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders Sanjay Raut and Priyanka Chaturvedi were among those who accompanied Thackeray as he spoke on the upcoming Delhi assembly poll and the future of the opposition INDIA alliance.

In Delhi's February 5 elections, the BJP won 48 of the 70 assembly seats, while the AAP only achieved 22.

The Congress, which failed to win any seats for the third straight election, has been accused by the Kejriwal-led AAP of undermining its chances of winning at least 13 seats.

The opposition alliance, which was established prior to the Lok Sabha elections last year, is composed of the Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and AAP.

Additionally, Thackeray charged that the Election Commission (EC) had manipulated voter rolls in several states, including Delhi, Maharashtra, Haryana, and Odisha.

"The right to vote has been stolen by the EC. It isn't even prepared to talk about this issue," he stated, adding that the opposition will formally bring up the subject.

Free and fair elections, Thackeray emphasized, were "necessary for the country."
